La Curva Parishioners refuse to enter church until Virgin is brought back

RESIDENTS of La Curva, Adra, refused to go to Mass, and say they won’t do so “until our Virgin is brought back”.

They have been complaining since local festivities in July that the figure of the Virgin carried through the streets was not “their Virgin” and is very different.

The locals confronted the priest who allegedly told them that it was the same figure.

Vicar Tomas Cano Rodriguez explained to the local Press that the figure which was carried in the procession this year is the “real” Virgen de la Vega, and the one which has been used in the past is in no condition to be used because she had “painted nails, a hole in her head and paint covering scratches and chips”.

The Bishopric claims that the change was explained to the parishioners and they support the priest’s decision.

Last weekend, around 100 locals held a silent event outside the church with candles and images of “their Virgin”. They claim the priest told them that the image was going to be restored and instead they have been brought another one. More than anything, they demand to see the old figure and be told what has happened to it.

Meanwhile, other local residents are not bothered about the change and this is allegedly dividing the town.
