Police have arrested three people suspected of kidnapping, assaulting and forcing a woman into prostitution in Benidorm.
The three are two women and a man aged 33, 41 and 63 years respectively. The apparent victim, a Romanian national, was allegedly abducted by one of the accused in her country of origin, who then moved her against their will to Benidorm, where she was forced into prostitution in a brothel in the town.
Investigations started following a complaint filed by the husband of the victim before the Romanian authorities, who said that his wife had disappeared from his home in that country.
A few weeks after reporting her disappearance, the missing woman managed to call her husband, telling him that she had been abducted and forced into prostitution in a club in the province of Alicante.
The man immediately contacted the National Police in Spain, who identified and arrested the three accused, but not before the alleged victim had managed to escape from her captors and be reunited with her family here in Spain.
