Jack and the Beanstalk opens Wednesday in Alcalali

THE magic of pantomime comes to Careline Theatre in Alcalali from next Wednesday January 11 to Sunday 15 with Jack and the Beanstalk.

It is written by Peter Denyer and directed by Marian Carter. Peter is best known to many as the dim but decent Dennis in the TV series,’ Please Sir’.

He later became one of the most produced writers of pantomime in Britain. Jack and the Beanstalk was one of his favourite pantomimes because he thought it had one of the best story-lines with a dramatically strong plot that continues right to the end.

Marian Carter has a long string of pantomime successes in the UK and a highly acclaimed Costa Blanca debut to her credit.

Her production of Jack and the Beanstalk is full of fun, glamorous and full of sparkle. And she gets the fun to leap the footlights and positively embrace the audience.

She has a terrific team to help her do so.

Her musical director is Roger Dean, her choreographer Suzanna Mace, her wardrobe mistress is Janet Walker, her stage manger Sonia Crabb, the set design is by John Pollit and Andy Crabb and her singers and dancers include the topflight professional dance duo, The Sapphires.

And what a cast she has! Jack is played by a long time Careline Theatre favourite, Leigh Patterson, a newcomer to leading roles but not to pantomime.

Tori Thorman plays Jill, Andy Crabb plays Fleshcreep, Andy Headford plays Dame Dottie Trot, Fairy Moonbeam is played by Natasha Lakin, Silly Billy Trot is played by Candida Wright, King Maurice by Alan Gill, Jim Sissens plays Grabbit and Neil Carter plays Giant Blunderbore.

The entire proceeds from next Wednesday’s pening night is being donated to Cancer Care Javea to help them fund the new cancer research laboratory at Denia Hospital, Xara. Seats for the five evening performances are €12 for adults – except the Saturday and Sunday matinees which is €10 – and €6 for children younger than age 10.

Curtain-up at 8pm or 3pm for the weekend matinees. A discount of 10% is available for adult party bookings of ten and over for the evening performances.
