A GROUP of farmers in the eastern area of the Axarquia has reported the robbery of at least 10 tonnes of avocados and other subtropical products.
In each case, the thieves targeted properties in Torrox, Nerja and Frigiliana, stealing no more than half a tonne each time to avoid being captured.
Robberies are being more frequent in the area, mainly due to the high unemployment rates and the ease with which the products can be sold on illegal market stalls.
The local farmers have suggested setting up ‘neighbourhood watches’ because they say the police presence is insufficient.
