WHILE the number of dogs adopted has dropped at Inca’s municipal dog pound, so to have the number of abandoned dogs.
In 2010, 565 dogs were brought to the pound, of which 368 were adopted, nearly two thirds. In 2011, 476 dogs were brought to the pound, of which 271 were adopted, just over half.
It has been three-and-a-half years since this dog pound was improved and expanded as well as worked towards getting the dogs brought in adopted.
Since 2008 a total of 1,529 dogs have been bought to the pound, of which 720 were adopted, 47 per cent.
Also, 242 lost dogs have been returned to their owners during this period.
