A SCULPTURE of former dictator Francisco Franco inside a drinks fridge exhibited at a Madrid art fair caused controversy.
The Franco Foundation is considering legal action the artist, Eugenio Merino, “and anyone who allows this uncouthness and lack of scruples against people who are dead and can’t defend themselves” according to foundation vice president Jaime Alonso.
The Foundation may extend the legal action to Merino’s Barcelona gallery, ADN, and the organizers of ‘Arco’
“The work creates hate and confrontation” Alonso said, “the same thing could be said for Franco but there is no need to ridicule people’s dignity”.
