Roquetas de Mar residents complain of caravan ‘invasion’

RESIDENTS on the Playa Serena Sur Urbanization in Roquetas de Mar have complained that caravans have ‘invaded’ the area.

The residents have complained to all the departments of the town hall as well as other authorities, but so far, they say that none of them have tried to stop caravaners from parking right on the shore and “taking over” the area.

Their main complaint is that while local residents have to pay taxes, including for rubbish collection, the campers arrive, set up their tables, throw their waste into the sewage system and use local bins for their rubbish.

They also claim to have seen reports on the internet amongst caravaners saying that camping is allowed on the beach in Roquetas.

They claim they begin to arrive in October and stay until June for the good weather which contrasts with the temperatures in their countries of origin, normally Germany.

The local Tourism and Commerce Councillor, Angel Mollinedo, says the town hall is working to create two parking areas for caravans with basic services which will be properly managed.
