Hotel plans for Balerma

A GROUP of business owners in El Ejido has announced plans to build a hotel in the Balerma area.

The project, which is being backed by the local Tourism Council, aims to build a 30 to 40-room hotel in the area.

The town hall proposed it to the local Association of Business Owners who were enthusiastic about the idea and are currently studying the possible location.

They are also looking for investors for the project, which would be on the seafront and would hopefully be “up and running within a couple of years” the President of the Association, Jose Francisco Manrique, said.

Business owners in the area are aware that it is important to have a hotel, because this would in turn benefit other sectors.

Balerma is currently an important area for residential tourism, and there are many people, even from other areas of El Ejido, who have a second home there.

During the summer, the population rises by an estimated 2,000 people.

Manrique pointed out that until now, no-one has boosted the tourism sector in Balerma, and that to do so, it is also important to improve local services, infrastructures and connections, something which the local town hall has said it is prepared to do.

El Ejido Town Hall has promised to offer tax benefits, not only for the construction of the hotel, but also for any other project which will boost tourism in the area.
