Since feeding instructions given on dog food are averages, and no two dogs are the same, they can be misleading.
Another unfortunate fact is that some marketing departments use feeding directions as a sales tool, stating that less food is required because of the alleged high quality of the product.
Determine the correct amount for your dog by starting with the recommended level on the bag.
Increase or decrease the amount according to the dog’s appearance.
If it gains weight, reduce the amount, and if it appears to lose weight, increase it.
Split the amount into two or three portions depending on how often a day the dog is fed.
All puppies and young dogs up to the age of 12 months should be fed three meals a day.
Adult dogs from 12 months to eight years should be fed two meals a day. When the dog gets older, after around eight years, it should be fed three meals a day.
