18 month sentence for puppy torture

A BADAJOZ man accused of torturing two puppies faces an 18-month prison sentence if convicted.

Identified as N.B.B., he allegedly slashed their legs, tongues and mouths and also cut off their tails and part of their ears.

He crushed the ribs of one puppy, producing internal bleeding which caused its death shortly afterwards.

The other survived but now suffers from physical and psychological after-effects.

N.B.B. readily admitted what he had done and confessed that he had kicked to death another puppy acquired from the Olivenza dog pound.

He acknowledged having taken puppies from the dog pound, where he claimed they were kept in terrible conditions.

He had only wanted to give them as presents to the people he met.

He took 30 dogs in less than a year, the court heard.

There was little doubt, the public prosecutor said, that the injuries inflicted by N.B.B. were intended to hurt the animals, not kill them.

The prosecutor recommended a 10-month prison sentence, partially mitigated by N.B.B’s mental state.

The lawyer representing the private prosecution, ADANA, asked for 18 months and a lifetime ban on owning animals.
