A MAN, 21, was arrested for allegedly damaging eight vehicles in Torrevieja while trying to escape from the Guardia Civil.
The incident took place shortly before 9am on Tuesday when the officers, who were carrying out routine checks, saw the suspect, who was driving an Audi A6, carrying out dangerous manoeuvres.
When he saw the Guardia Civil, he attempted to avoid them, and although they signalled to him to pull over, he drove away at high speed.
Witnesses claim he was driving down the middle of the road, swerving to avoid traffic on both sides of him and endangering other drivers.
He crashed into seven parked cars before losing control of the car on Avenida de Cortes Valencianas, where he drove onto the pavement and crashed his car between two vehicles.
Two of them overturned due to the force of the impact, but fortunately no-one was injured.
He then got out of the car and attempted to escape, forcing the Guardia Civil to point their guns at him to get him to stop.
He then resisted arrest.
The Local Police carried out a breathalyser test which proved he was over the legal alcohol limit.
The Guardia Civil also reported that he does not have a driving license.
The detainee had recently been released from Fontcalent prison after serving time for a violent robbery.
