Nerja 41 Club on the look out for members

NERJA 41 CLUB is still looking for former Round Tablers.

Past members of the thousands of Round Tables around the world who are living East of Malaga full time or for part of the year have been, and still are, being invited to join their local Ex Tabler’s Club, known as the East of Malaga or Nerja 41 Club.

I have the privilege of Chairing Nerja 41 Club for 2011/2012.

Our club membership here in Spain includes ex-Tablers from several North European Countries such as Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Denmark and, yes, even England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Only 20 per cent of our members live in Spain full time whilst the rest visit for only one to five months per year.

It is not difficult to understand that continuity is potentially a problem hence our recent membership drive to try to find more full and part time members.

There are many ex-Tablers out there in the area covered by our club and there is only one way to find them.

We have written articles for local papers and free magazines of which there are many and we have designed an eye-catching logo to advertise ourselves in their ‘What’s On’ sections.

Next, we are going to approach the numerous local radio stations whose audiences may have many ex-Tablers amongst their numbers.

All of this effort is starting to pay off as we have introduced 14 new members in the last year or so giving us a total of 33.

Our club meets twice a month on the first and third Thursdays.

On the first Thursday we have our ‘Munch Bunch’ lunch where we go out with our ladies to sample ‘Menu del Dia’ around many of the different restaurants in our very large catchment area.

Our meeting on the third Thursday is the normal 41 Club meeting for the men at the Hotel Al-Andaluz in Maro next to the caves of Nerja and on these evenings the ladies often meet for a meal.

Some of our club evenings are shared with our ladies if we have a splendid speaker, and on other evenings the fun and fellowship of Round Table comes to the fore.

Our Ladies Night at the First Restaurant in January proved very popular.

Recently a large group visited Gibraltar for our ‘Cluster’ weekend.

This is when the seven 41 Clubs on the Iberian Peninsula spend a weekend of fun together, each Club taking turns to host this event.

Our meeting in March was run by our new members and was well supported and hilarious. One of our members who is also a member of an English 41 Club was recently presented with our Club’s highest honour by our current National President.
