NO public events will commemorate the 50th wedding anniversary of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia.
Neither is it known whether there will be a family gathering on May 14 to mark the anniversary.
A CD with 50 photographs issued by the Zarzuela Palace press office has been the only official gesture so far.
The situation is very different from 1987 when the royal couple celebrated their Silver Wedding.
There was a photo call and a family dinner followed by a reception at the Palacio Royal for couples who married on the same day as Carlos and Sofia.
There was no particular reason for the lack of festivities, said the Zarzuela Palace. Media reports suggest otherwise.
The habitual reticence regarding the royal family’s private lives is waning and the frosty relations between the King and Queen are an open secret.
The King has been romantically linked in the German press with Corina Larsen, who still uses the title of her second husband, Prince Casimir zu Sayn-Wittgenstein.
Juan Carlos was risking his marriage and his crown for this woman, claimed Bunte magazine.
There were no plans “at present” to take legal action against the publication, replied a Zarzuela spokesman when asked to comment.
