Happy Mondays in action
THE ‘godfathers of Madchester, Happy Mondays performed on the Rocks stage for the first time Tuesday night.
Discovered through the legendary Hacienda Club in Manchester, the Mondays became the flag bearers of the baggy movement and are touted as almost single handedly responsible for putting late 80s Manchester at the centre of the musical universe.
This year the band has reformed their original line-up of Shaun and Paul Ryder, Gary Whelan, Mark Day, Paul Davis, Rowetta and that man Bez for the first time in 19 years.
They played hits from Step On to Kinky Afro, Hallelujah to Loose fit.
Joining Happy Mondays for the party was the ‘first lady’ of dance music Annie Mac, who hosted their Ibiza Rocks TV show last summer.
