THE first harvest of organic Muscat grapes or ‘BioMoscatell’ were gathered in Benitachell.
The sweet grape was developed as part of the Organic Muscat project with the help of seven local farmers who offered some of their land for the trial. Mayor Josep Femenia, Economic Promotions Councillor Manolo Segarra, Coordinator of the Organic Muscat project Jose Manuel Bisetto and Agroforestal Ecosystems technician Pilar Xamani all gathered to observe the ground-breaking fruit crop. BioMoscatell from Benitachell “is now a reality” and the crop “is modest but shows an optimistic future,” said the mayor. Due to the success of the trial all those involved with the project expect a harvest of around 7,700 kilograms of the organic grape in the near future.
