A POLICE officer in Palma de Mallorca’s canine unit was bitten a dog he was training.
The officer required 20 stitches on his arm after the animal escaped from its cage.
The incident took place around 7pm on Saturday at the UCAN municipal installations in Son Toells.
The officer was leading a dog trained to detect drugs and put the it in one of the kennels. At this point another police dog, trained to carry out rescues, managed to escape and attacked the first dog. It is believed they had a confrontation a few days before.
The local police officer was injured while trying to separate the two canines.
The dog that bit him has been removed from service and placed in quarantine for observation and under the supervision of a vet to determine a possible reason for the attack.
