Warehouses can’t stand for themselves forever

Alicante Town Hall (pictured) asked to protect historical building

A CULTURAL association wants the Alicante city council to protect the old brick warehouses located in Plaza Senaca.
Currently, the warehouses located on calles Italia, Portugal and Arzobispo Loaces belong to the municipality and are also used for parking and office space but, “lack proper treatment and protection considering their inherent value,” according to a statement made by the cultural group Alicante Vivo.
The buildings have stood the test of time withstanding occupancy, abandonment and even the Spanish Civil War since its construction in 1908.
Alicante Vivo expressed its desire in converting the historical buildings into a place of interest for tourists where they could rediscover a site that has been all but forgotten.
The project would be of, “very little cost due to its excellent conserved condition and small size,” pointed out the organisation.
The city council is still considering Alicante Vivo’s plea for their protection from the “risk of these century old buildings from disappearing.”
