Policeman sentenced for keeping fines

A LOCAL POLICE officer from Benahavis has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison for keeping money from traffic fines.

Between 2008 and 2009, he would go alone to a local urbanization where he would fine foreign drivers for offences such as failing to wear their seatbelts or using mobile phones while driving. He demanded the money on the spot and then kept it for himself. He has been suspended for 15 years and will have to pay a €4,500 fine.
