Lack of services at Poniente Hospital

DESPITE there being 200 heart attacks every year in the Poniente area of Almeria province, the Hospital de Poniente hasn’t got an on-duty cardiologist.

There are also 200 strokes every year in the area, and the hospital hasn’t got a neurology department. Twenty-five per cent of cases of cancer are diagnosed in the Poniente area, but there is no Oncology Department, no endocrinologist for the 14,000 diabetics, and no rheumatologist for the 3,000 fibromyalgia patients.
