LEWIS HAMILTON (McLaren) became the first winner of the US Grand Prix held in Austin, Texas.
He came into Sunday’s race ranked number five and edged out Germany’s number one ranked Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) by a fraction of a second in the final lap when the two were neck and neck.
This is Hamilton’s 21st victory.
However, for Spain’s Fernando Alonso, the World Championship slot slipped further from his grasp as he came third. While slim, he still has a chance. He is 13 points behind rival Vettel, so will have to win next Sunday’s race in São Paulo (Brazil) by a considerable margin.
Vettel only has to come forth in order to ensure his second World Championship title.
