POLICE have smashed a gang that is believed to have trafficked more than 8,000 Russian women to work as prostitutes in Spain. Brothels in Vícar and Roquetas de Mar were raided as part of the operation.
Since 2005 the gang had been sending up to 20 women a week to work as sex slaves. They were tricked into coming to Spain with promises of jobs.
It is believed that the gang was responsible for trafficking 70 per cent of all Russian prostitutes in Spain. So far 18 people have been arrested and six luxury cars impounded.
