NURSES and midwives were rushed off their feet with 12 deliveries in one day during a mini baby boom.
The maternity unit of the Vinalopó hospital in Elche normally averages just three or four births a day.
But nine baby girls and three boys, including a set of twins were born in one 24 hour period recently. Two were caesarean sections and the others natural births.
“The truth is that it was something unusual,” said hospital spokeswoman Noelia Rodriguez. “We have some days with many births, but never as many as on that day. We were organised quite well and together we did a good job. All deliveries were good and there were no further problems,” she added.
