ACCORDING to Spain´s British Consulate, expats living in Spain are continuing to use their EHIC European Health Insurance Card but this is not essentially the best way to gain their health care benefits.
During a meeting in Alicante, it was announced that using the card was putting strain on Spain’s health service and they stress that the card is not for long term residents but only for this visiting Spain for short periods of time.
The card allows the holder temporarily visiting Spain to receive emergency medical treatment that is necessary including repeat prescriptions.
It is important for Expats living in Spain for long perdiod’s of time to consider registering for Residency in Spain.
