ANGELA MERKEL’S Germany need about 100,000 engineers over the coming decade but Deutschland will not be Option B for Spaniards. Only two per cent speak German, not good when set against the European average of 11per cent.
A further snag is that many German multi-nationals or health based occupations require job applicants to speak English, which further narrows the options. There is another imbalance: it is estimated 1 million Germans live in Spain; only 46,000 Spaniards work in Germany. There are 1,000 German companies in Spain employing 300,000 staff.
