River worries in Vera

MAYOR Jose Carmelo Jorge Blanco has offered a neighbouring town the use of the Vera sewage works.

Since heavy flooding swept away the Antas water treatment plant sewage has been spilling into the river.

At a meeting with the mayor and Councillor for Development Juan de la Cruz Belmonte, residents of the coastal region of Vera had raised worries about the environmental and possible health problems this could cause.

The citizens also called for work on the dry riverbed to avoid future problems with flooding. They stressed the urgency for dredging, cleaning and channelling the river Antas, which has reeds growing at the river mouth.

Another area of concern was the current state of local beaches, which need to be cleaned and restored.
