UNIQUE: Sand dunes are an uncommon landscape on the Costa del Sol.
PRESERVATION of the Dunas de Artola natural park in Marbella will be guaranteed by a €192,000 investment from the Central Government.
The 15,000 square metres of sand dunes in Marbella’s Las Chapas area will be bought by the Government. The plot will be fenced off to stop cars driving amongst the dunes. Local developers of four nearby urbanisations will be compensated. The Costa del Sol is almost entirely bereft of sand dunes, making the Artola natural park, next to Puerto Cabopino, particularly important for its rare plant life and ecosystem.
Another €1.65 million will be used for repairing the Torre Ladrones, a 14-metres-high Arab defence tower dating back to the 15th century.
