Workers taken for a ride

A FREE bicycle-lending scheme is to be launched aimed at immigrants working in Almeria’s agricultural sector.

Head of Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Almeria Acoge, Juan Miralles IDEAL that it will lend bicycles to foreign agricultural workers for them to get to work.

The scheme is aimed at immigrants who need bicycles to commute, but can not afford to buy one.

In total 60 bicycles will be distributed by Almeria Acoge from its Nijar and El Ejido shelters.  The bicycles have been donated by Rewe y Univeg Trade Spain, a German company that sells fruits and vegetables from Almeria.

The NGO is also considering holding workshops on bicycle assembly, maintenance and repair.
