Crisis Hits Brothels

Men were blackmailed for using prostitutes.

BROTHELS are being hit hard by the recession.

Two houses of ill repute in Almeria city have recently been forced to close by the hard economic reality.

And that is forcing more prostitutes to take to the streets to practice their profession.  More than 50 – most of them Russian and Romanian – are offering their services at the Carretera Sierra de Alhamilla as well as at the Bayyana and Pescaderia areas.

And prices for their services are also being forced down.

Now residents who have long complained about the street walkers are still waiting for the different political parties to finally agree to pass the Civic Coexistence Ordinance.  It will impose fines for street prostitution, which is not illegal.  Harsher fines will be imposed on soliciting less than 200 metres from trading or residential areas.
