ALMERIA’S Mayor has unveiled plans to renovate the city’s old town.
Luis Rogelio Rodríguez-Comendador wants to restore more than 350 old town homes and pedestrianise streets.
He also wants the city council to support traditional businesses and invest in energy saving measures for new buildings.
Speaking in Brussels he presented the plans as part of a project called Slow Cities. Almeria is one of ten cities participating in the ‘Urbact-links’ European program aimed at sharing ideas and experiences.
The ‘Slow Cities’ project seeks to create areas where priority is given to quality of life and respect for historic and cultural heritage as well as the environment.
The mayor also emphasized the importance of generating jobs, including training construction workers in restoration techniques.
