MARINA ALTA firms are unenthusiastic about doing business with local town halls.
The past year was “frankly bad” for small and medium-sized businesses (PYMEs), admitted a statement from the Marina Alta business-owners association, Cedma.
The central government’s finance scheme enabling cash-strapped town halls to pay suppliers has eased the situation of many businesses, Cedma conceded.
PYMEs still had problems, nevertheless. “In an immense number of cases, payments from town halls were used mainly for staff restructuring, dismissals or closures,” Cedma continued.
And unpaid town hall bills were mounting up once more. “There aren’t too many PYMEs willing to risk working with some town halls in the area,” the statement said.
