Budget criticism ‘hypocrisy’ – Costa Blanca News

Hypocrisy: Councillor hits out at predecessors

OPPOSITION criticism of Altea’s 2013 budget received a blistering town hall reply.

“The socialists are completely ill-equipped to censure the budget,” declared councillor Jesus Balleser.

“They were incapable of producing municipal accounts for 2010 and 2011 and muddled through by extending their 2009 budget,” he said.

This was totally irresponsible and underlined the party’s inability to manage municipal funds rationally or efficiently, the councillor claimed.

To this should be added the hypocrisy of PSOE spokesman Eloy Hidalgo, Ballester continued.  When the PSOE took over the town hall in 2007 he assigned himself a monthly salary of €3,605 plus expenses.  Mayor Andres Ripoll received €4,209 a month.

The PSOE had no difficulty in ignoring the economic situation of the town hall or many Alteanos at that time, Ballester said.

These figures in black and white should be enough “to make them blush” and admit that their wastefulness and extravagance had caused the town hall’s economic situation, he added.

In contrast, the PP council has cut salaries by 22 per cent, eliminated councillors’ mobile phones and expenses and reduced aid to the municipal parties by 20 per cent, said the councillor.
