A MAN who spent 11 months in prison after his wife made false complaints of violence against him has had his request for compensation refused.
Jose Antonio Santos Barragan was sentenced to prison when his ex-wife reported him for eight acts of violence against her.
But later it was proved he could not have committed the offences because he was not present at the time.
He lost his job after entering prison in February 2007 and was demanding the State pay him €128,289 for a miscarriage of justice. But the National Court has thrown out the claim.
His ex-wife has admitted making false declarations and the court sentenced her to 20 months in prison and to pay compensation of €35,000.
