LARISA CATARAGA, whose father killed her mother, was herself murdered by her partner 30 years later.
A 35-year-old Moldavian who lived in Calpe, Larisa was stabbed 17 times by Julian Garcia Ausina. He was later found hanged at a house owned by his family in the same town.
Larisa arrived in Calpe five years ago, beginning her relationship with 44-year-old Garcia two years later, friends told the Spanish media.
Although she never complained of abuse, Larisa had tried several times to break off the relationship, which she described as “stifling,” they claimed.
Approximately three weeks ago, she and Garcia told their landlord that they were splitting up and would be leaving the apartment, the same sources explained.
But Larisa eventually admitted to her friends that Garcia, who allegedly had a drink problem, asked for one more chance and she had relented.
Three days after this conversation, Larisa, who worked as a cleaner, failed to turn up for work or send a message. Her employer contacted the Guardia Civil who entered the apartment when no-one answered the door. Inside they discovered Larisa’s body wrapped in a blood-stained carpet.
Suspecting Garcia, they went to his family’s house on the outskirts of Calpe where they found that he had taken his own life.
Larisa was the third woman to be killed in Spain by her partner in the first three weeks of 2013, and the second in the Valencian Community.
