That is always a mistake. Builders need decisions made, misunderstandings happen and alterations to plans occur (sometimes as a genuine consequence of the work itself).
So, it is essential that you continually check that what is being done is a correct interpretation of your wishes. If you cannot visit a site frequently then always employ a professional to regularly inspect any work and to act as a liaison between you and your builder and, importantly, as a quality controller.
