A 26 year old German tourist died after suffering serious injuries from a rockfall caused by the severe weather conditions in the Canary Islands.
The tourist was walking in La Gomera yesterday when the incident occurred. He was taken to the hospital in Tenerife where he later died form his injuries.
Winds have reached up to 130kms per hour over the weekend causing a situation of alert in the islands. Schools have been closed and Lanzarote and Fuerteventura remain on orange alert for high winds.
Las Palmas, La Gomera and El Hierro have been alerted to the risk of high tides, with waves between 4 and 5 metres, and the whole area will have heavy rains.
The airports are back in action today although there are delays and some cancellations, mainly in Las Palmas.
The ports of Agaete, Gran Canaria and Los Cristianos, Tenerife continue to be closed, and the sport marina at Los Gigantes have taken the boats into dry dock for safety. Most have already suffered some damage.
