Finding friends with Facebook

It was standing room only when Javea Mayor Jose Chulvi met his Facebook friends.

JAVEA residents are calling for a second meeting with the Mayor Jose Chulvi following the great success of the first reception.

Several hundred ex-pats packed into the Parador Hotel in Javea to hear a presentation by the mayor, who also answered questions about council matters.

The mayor has been embracing social media to reach out to the expat community. He already has more than 440 Facebook friends and decided to host a meeting to talk about their concerns.

He said that the renovation to the Arenal is well under way and will be renamed Paseo de Tenista David Ferrer in honour of the Javea tennis star.

He said that he is doing all he can to help promote a better quality of life for residents and holidaymakers alike and he hoped that he could “count on your help”.

He also confirmed that the regional government had pledged €600,000 towards renovating the OldTown cinema, which has room for 300 people and could become a new cultural centre.
