Local wine boosts economy

QUALITY red wine is synonymous with the Almanzora Valley.

Now the Regional Council aims to build on its recent success and approval rating amongst local buyers and connoisseurs. It will do that by developing areas of collaboration with companies who market and promote the consumption of Almeria products.

A spokesman for the provincial government, Oscar Liria, confirmed the developing importance of the wine sector in the sustained growth of the region’s economy, not least in the number of jobs it generates in small municipalities. “More than 50 wineries have received local and international recognition” he said, adding “and we are starting to see a growth in export sales.”
