Man left friend to die in car

A MAN has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison for letting a friend die in his car.

The events took place in Pozo Alcon, Jaen, in October 2010. Both men were drunk when one hit the other with his car when he went into reverse without realizing his friend had fallen over. He then put the victim in the back of his car and left him there overnight. The following morning he took him to a health centre, but he was already dead.

The accused claimed that the victim had been injured before they met and that he left him in the car because he didn’t want to get out and told him he felt fine. However, the owner of the bar confirmed that the victim had been hit by his friend’s car.

The judge sentenced him for manslaughter and failing to aid an injured person. If the victim had received immediate medical care, he could have been saved, experts testified.

He has been banned from driving for two years and will also have to pay €70,000 compensation to each of the victim’s two children.
