Almanzora's greenhouses
ALMANZORA Valley’s growers are accused of sending second rate produce for domestic consumption, whilst saving the best for export markets.
The fruit and vegetables nurtured in the greenhouses of Almeria are rated into three categories, and quite often, it is claimed, second and third rate consumables are finding their way onto the home market.
Poor domestic consumption coupled with a lucrative international pricing policy and weak local economies are the main reasons.
High quality produce is in great demand by European customers, especially the Dutch, who are prepared to pay prices way beyond the level of their Spanish counterparts.
