11 years for abusing girlfriend in Sevilla

A MAN, 19, has been sentenced to almost 11 years in prison for abusing his partner.

The couple, both the same age, began living together in a town in Sevilla in October 2010.

In January 2011, they were in a car with relatives when an argument broke out and he threw himself from the moving vehicle.

She jumped out to help him, but he slapped her.

He constantly abused her and terrified her, but she hid physical evidence of the abuse and failed to report him.

She told doctors that she walked in her sleep and had fallen down the stairs or cut herself.

In April 2011, he hit her in the head with a knife, causing brain trauma.

Later that month, when she told him she wanted to leave him, he slashed her face with a knife.

She required stitches and has a severe scar for which he will have to pay her €60,000 in compensation.
