Marbella help Spain join rugby Elite

WELL DONE: The Marbella six who featured for Spain.

MARBELLA players have helped the Spanish U18 rugby team create a piece of history by winning the European Championship in Grenoble, France.

Spain were playing in the A division where they beat Sweden 71 – 0, Germany 50- 0 and then Russia in the final.  They beat the strong Russian team 47 – 0.

They are the only team to have won the Division A group and not concede a point along the way.  This means that they will now be eligible to play in the Elite group alongside teams such as England, France, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.

The victory was relevant for Marbella Rugby Club as the victorious national team had six players from Marbella.  Dani Stohr, Pablo Miejimolle, Jack Davies, George Stokes and Facu Munilla all started the final and Pedro de la Lastra was a second half substitute.

Scrum half Facu Munilla scored two tries in the final to set the tone, followed by the giant second row Jack Davies who also scored.

In the Elite group final, England beat France 27 -22.  Josh Peters was a second half substitute for England.  Until this season, Josh played all of his rugby at Marbella rugby club. In the summer he moved to England to join Northampton saints.
