Shanghai calling as electric sports car debuts

GREEN FUN: Detroit Electric’s sports car will debut in Shanghai.

NEXT big motorshow on the agenda is the 15th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (Auto Shanghai 2013). With a potentially huge market opening up in China  all the world’s motoring manufacturers will be there keen to grow sales to the burgeoning middle classes.

Auto Shanghai 2013, starting on Sunday, has attracted luxury car brands, including Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Bugatti, ETERNITI, Koenigsegg and MKB.

In addition, Citroen, Peugeot, Renault, Fiat, DS, Hyundai, KIA, Mazda, Mitsubishi Suzuki and Subaru will be included in the roster of exhibitors. And home manufacturer Qoros Auto will have a strong presence.

As in the recent New York and Geneva shows new-energy vehicles will be a highlight. Denza, a new electric vehicle jointly developed by Chinese manufacturer BYD and Daimler, will be showcased at the event.

Detroit Electric will make the world debut of its new two seater all electric sports car that has been five years in research and development.

Albert Lam, the former group CEO of Lotus, who revived 100-year-old American brand in 2008 said: “The sports car will allow us to demonstrate to the world our ability to build an exciting and innovative product. This DNA will be translated across to our future sedans; all our cars will be fun to drive and deliver exceptional performance within their class.”
