Poet resident of Alfaz del Pi remembers daughter

POEMS PUBLISHED: R.I. Iyemere with (right) Culture councillor Rocio Guijarro.

ALFAZ resident R.I. Iyemere has published a book of poems dedicated to her dead daughter. Ada Emilia Ruth Valmori died through doctors’ negligence, the writer explained during the presentation of “The Ordeals” at Alfaz del Pi’s Forum.

Iyemere has lived in Alfaz since 1983 but was born in Nigeria, one of 11 children.  She left school without qualifications, later obtaining GCSEs but dropped out of an Open University degree through lack of funds.

“Since then I studied at the University of Hardships and learnt to write poetry on my own,” she said.

Her favourite poets are T.S. Eliot, Dylan Thomas and Byron. Culture councillor Rocio Guijarro attended the presentation, thanking Iyemere for donating the proceeds of the book to local social projects.
