Barcelona defeated by Bayern 4-0

Bayern Munich had a convincing win against Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final first leg at the Allianz Arena in Munich last night. The final score read 4-0.

Thomas Müller made a first half header followed by second half goals from Mario Gómez, Arjen Robben and Müller which capped off a dominating display by the German side.

The Bavarians kept up the pressure and Barcelona’s defence did not look concentrated, especially Batra. Only hours before the match Lionel Messi was cleared to play and he was placed up front with Alexis Sánchez and Pedro but the trio produced very little. In fact the Barcelona attack was weak and the only threat came in the 29th minute with a ball from Pedro across to Messi. But the Argentine was not at his best and passed the ball instead of taking on the Bayern defenders.

When Barcelona were two goals down they tried in vain to regain a hold in the match using their possession game, but the Bayern goalkeeper had very little to do.

When Müller put in the fourth goal Barcelona could only look on sadly as there was no way now to reverse the result.
