El Toro veterans against Unigans
EVEN though the major Rugby Leagues around the islands have come to an end there is still plenty of rugby to enjoy.
The Michel Rodier tournament featured U18 sevens teams from clubs around the islands.
In the second leg on Saturday, teams from RC Ponent, Dimonis and El Toro RC competed in short matches. The hosts El Toro RC “A” came out on top by winning every match so remain in first place although they had to work hard against RC Ponent.
RC Ponent beat Dimonis from Manacor. With another four legs to play anything could happen.
Principes de España was the location for the Rugby day hosted by RC Ponent on Sunday morning.
The younger players turned out bright and early for their matches and were well supported as they played.
Meanwhile the veterans team from El Toro RC travelled to Bilbao to play in the XXIII Veterans German Cando Trophy against the Unigans veterans team. Return matches are planned for the near future.
The Scorpions Ponent Girls team travelled to Osona in central Catalunia to participate in a University tournament. They were up against some strong teams but thanks to good game organisation, a very strong defence and desire to win they reached the final where they were defeated by only one try. The team shows real promise for the future of the sport.
Coming up next weekend North Bristol RFC will be visiting the island to play El Toro RC at Son Caliu pitch on Saturday. Kick-off is at 3pm, and there will be refreshments available.
