Law changes reduce coastal protection

THE Spanish Government has introduced a change to the Ley de Costas or Coastal law reducing the area of highly-protected land just back from the public maritime border from 100 metres to 20 metres.

From now on any property situated 20 metres back from the border and beyond will be governed by municipal planning laws if all other conditions are met, such as public access and utility supplies, instead of the much stricter Ley de Costas planning laws.
