THE ALCAZABA: Caves development go-ahead.
THE biggest construction project in Almeria for a decade has received the green light. Local government officials have signed a contract worth almost €5.5 million to develop the caves at the foot of the Alcazaba after considering 14 different proposals.
The work, which will take 16 months to complete, forms an integral part of the Urban Plan, and will make comprehensive changes to this iconic part of the city.
The facade of the proposed urbanisation will be fully integrated with the existing environment and enhanced by translucent lighting which will highlight the esplanade of the caves.
Almeria’s urban regeneration programme is jointly funded by the European Union and the city of Almeria.
