TRAINING SESSION: Preparing for the European championships.
HOLLAND’S Paralympic athletes are currently training in Alfaz del Pi. The team, which is visiting Alfaz for the first time, is headed by Kenny Van Weeghel and Malou Van Rhijn, who each took gold and silver medals in last year’s Paralympic Games held in London.
They and approximately 20 other athletes are spending two weeks in Alfaz to prepare for the European championships. As well as sprinters, the team includes specialists in high-jump, long jump and javelin. All compete in specifically-adapted wheelchairs or with carbon-fibre prosthetics limbs.
