THE mayor of Arboleas has announced his five point plan for the future of the municipality. Cristobal Garcia, an engineer by profession, was one of the original politicians who shaped the town’s future more than 20 years ago, when the basic needs were electric power, drinking water, and communications.
He acknowledges that yesterday’s solutions do not fit the technological age, and it is more difficult to lead the community towards a better future.
For this reason he sees the adoption of modern management methods as a key to success. To achieve this aim, a plan is needed, and the mayor intends to utilise the town’s assets according to need.
He believes strongly that the town should be prepared for every eventuality, such as last year’s floods, and that it should have the equipment to combat the challenges that lie ahead.
Finally, Garcia wants to raise expectations amongst constituent’s and his government team and avoid complacency. Already this year, the council has introduced plans to make inexpensive internet connection available for all (€5 for one megabyte), and work on a new sewage treatment plant will start shortly.
