Alonso triumphs in F1 Spanish Grand Prix, Barcelona

Fernando Alonso dedicated his win to the fans who had flocked to the Circuit de Catalunya. “With things as they are, coming here represents a big effort. I want to dedicate this win to everyone and give you my thanks and that of Ferrari”, the Spanish F1 star said from the podium, after he had been drenched with champagne and the Spanish national anthem had been played.

Commenting on the race he admitted that he had “taken a risk at the start because we had to get past a number of cars. Fortunately, it turned out well. We knew some of the others would try to make one less stop than us and we’d have to get in front and then go flat out all race, at qualifying pace, to beat them”, he said which was a comment on Raikkonen’s race strategy, who finished second.

“I’m very happy about the win because it was a really good race. It’s incredible to win at home again”, the F1 Spanish Grand Prix winner added.

His second win “does not change much in the World Championship standings. We’ve had ups and downs over the last five races with a few technical problems, but we know we have a car that can compete for the top positions and battle for the championship”, Fernando Alonso commented.

“It’s been a fantastic day. We wanted to do well at home and we’ve taken care of every detail to achieve that. Thanks for all the support from around world”, the driver repeated.
